Friends. We could focus on all the bad in the world, but the truth is that there’s always bad. That’s a sad fact. But you know what we only have for maybe five or six months out of the year? Cardigan season.
I love cardigans for so many reasons. I made the case a few years ago about how everybody should have a cardigan that’s only for the house, and I still stand by that. But I also think owning multiple cardigans for different occasions is also a solid move. I tend to buy mine vintage or on sale, but a nice cardigan is the one thing I don’t have too much trouble paying full price on if I think it’ll be my only chance to grab one that’s especially good. A cardigan is a nice investment because you can wear it to an event, you can wear it to dinner, you can wear it sitting around a fire, and after a few years, you can retire it to the home, garden, roof, or whatever.
With that in mind, I give you the first Cardigan Roundup.
This Tom Ford shawl collar is the perfect example of an investment. It costs over 2K, and yes, that’s a month’s rent, but I also think you’ll look like Daniel Plainview in this thing for at least a solid 15 years.
If you’re looking to spend less, this wool one from Brooks Brothers is $300.
This one from the Elder Statesman has what I like to call a “mini Lenny Kravitz scarf collar.” Sadly, it won’t make you look like Lenny.
I also like a real fun, lightweight cardigan and I think Todd Snyder has mastered those in the last few years. This is a real good “Slicing turkey cardigan.”
I was so pissed when I saw that Other Animal had a Ducky from Pretty in Pink/Ferris Bueller cardigan for sale at End but I’d missed my shot at grabbing one in my size. They still have a few left for skinnier folks.
Finally, a fun cardigan from STORY mfg. It’s no longer tomato season, but I suppose you can dream about next August when you put this one on.
