I remain a Jack Spade messenger bag guy. I had so many over the years when I lived in Seattle that I always bought at the Jack Spade Store at 56 Greene Street (NYC) when I was visiting NYC and used them until the corners of the bag started tearing. Five or six years ago I picked up a deadstock JS navy blue canvas messenger bag on the Poshmark and it’s pretty much strapped on my person every day.
Never had the messenger (I don't think). I've got a cabinet full of JS briefcases just awaiting my kids's discovery of them, a decade from now. Andy one of the all time greats.
I got my first Jack Spade wax messenger bag probably around 2006. Then in 2012, I got a black diaper bag at the old store in the Village. It meant a lot to me that my diaper bag was from Jack Spade
I remember buying a Navy canvas messenger at the Jack Spade store on Abbot Kinney in 2010. Felt like such a boss for a week, then my car got broken into and it was gone. Went back to my roots after that with L.L. Bean totes and free Burton backpacks.
It is WILD that you wrote this today, as this morning I decided to peruse eBay for a bit for vintage Jack Spade utility totes and - which I think is even more eponymous than the bike messagers - the coal bags!
That is an excellent excuse. MP is quite niche. That, plus a Barbour that had enormous "game pockets" that could fit Norton Anthologies got me through grad school.

Picked up a navy canvas Jack Spade on eBay because Filson was too expensive. Still use it today.
I LITERALLY found my old black Jack Spade bag THIS week.
I loved that it was slightly smaller than other messengers but big enough that it could still hold all your crap.
I love the stuff you write about.
Also from the same era, and now totally obscure: Ernest Alexander. I still have a waxed duffel bag of his that's my regular carry-on.
Oh yeaaaah. I never owned one but loved how they looked.

The best. An all-timer
I am still using my large collection of Jack Spade bags. I can't believe this brand died. I love their bags to this day.
They'll pull my Chrome messenger bag from my cold, dead hands.

I had an orange messenger bag from Brooklyn Industries that was pretty much part of my uniform

Not Timbuk2. The OG messenger bag was Manhattan Portage. That label was (still is) the coolest.
Thank you. I couldn’t recall the name. I think since I lived in the Midwest and was out in California a lot I saw Timbuk2 more

I really wish Jack would start a new brand...or at least do a collab with Todd Snyder or Alex Mill.
